Make a difference in your community today
Texas 4-H is part of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas A&M System. Founded in 1908, 4-H is the largest youth development program in Texas, reaching more than 550,000 youth each year.
4-H is a national youth development program growing the leaders of tomorrow. 4-H is a club for kids and teens ages 8-18. You may think 4-H is only for your friends with animals, but it’s so much more! In 4-H youth learn leadership, public speaking, various life skills, compete in 4-H events, have fun and make lasting friendships. You can participate in activities like shooting sports, food science, healthy living, robotics, fashion, and photography. There are so many opportunities for youth including college scholarships.
Our club meets every Wednesday from 12-3 for project meetings. We also meet every Friday for field trips or community service. We meet on the Northwest side of town near Shaenfield and 1604. Contact us if you would like to join us at sahomeschoolers4h@gmail.com
No matter where you live or what you like to do, Texas 4-H has something that lets you be a better you! Our 4-H motto, "To Make the Best Better!"
If our club does not fit your needs contact the Bexar County AgriLife Extension Office at 210-631-0400 for a club near you.
In this project kids will learn about healthy eating through cooking, learning about the food plate, vitamins, minerals, reading food labels, using recipes, substituting ingredients for healthier options, and food science. They will learn how to work in a team, public speaking, menu planning and so much more.
This project covers basic design elements, organization, upcycling, and service learning.
In this project kids will learn and practice different techniques used in taking good pictures from using a phone to a point and shoot to a fancy digital camera. We will explore videography and learn about editing apps to use to improve photos and videos. There are opportunities for state wide workshops, state photography ambassadors, as well as many competitions held throughout the year.
Public Speaking gives kids the confidence to speak in front of people. A skill that many people struggle with. We offer many opportunities to practice this skill in our club setting to competitions. This is a skill that will help them for life!!
The companion animal project teaches about the selection and care of a companion animal; the maintenance and responsibilities of having a companion animal; the importance of keeping accurate records; and the importance of citizenship, sportsmanship and cooperation. Time and financial commitment well depend on the animal you choose.
If you love science and technology, this project is for you. We will explore the world of STEM with many hands on projects. There are opportunities for competitions as well as state 4-H STEM ambassadors.
There are many leadership opportunities available in 4-H. In our club we have a club council of officers to include president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, council delegate, health officer, historian and parliamentarian. These officers plan and run our monthly business meetings and various other responsibilities. At the county level there are county ambassadors and county council officers. There are district level officers as well which includes over 20 counties. At the state level there are ambassadors in STEM, fashion, shooting sports to name a few as well as state officers. There are also opportunities at the national level.
We like to take some fun and some educational field trips. This is where the kids get to socialize with each other and grow friendships.
We do several community service projects throughout the year. These are important for the kids to participate in. By learning to give back to their community, they learn empathy for others, kindness and selflessness. Some examples of projects we have done in the past are the food bank, Elf Louise project, nursing home caroling and pictures with Santa for the residents, and the diaper bank to name a few.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The projects may change every year depending on the interest of the kids, with shooting sports remaining our main project each year.
No. This is a common misconception. Yes you can raise and show animals through 4-H but there is so much more to 4-H. You can participate in so many other types of projects. If our club does not offer it you can still belong to our club and also participate in other clubs in the county or work on a project alone if you prefer. Ask us for more details.
All members are required to sign up on 4HOnline. Youth members ages 5-18 are required to pay a $25.00 participation fee if enrolled by October 31st, and a $30.00 fee from November 1st to the completion of the 4-H year. Adults pay a $10.00 volunteer applicant fee. Any adult that will be at meetings on a regular basis must sign up as a volunteer. Adults and youth will need to enroll on 4HOnline and be active to be considered an official member of Texas 4-H.
Our club requires a participation fee of $20 per member, yearly.
We try to keep costs to a minimum but you may be asked to bring items for projects on occasion.
We meet every Wednesday from 12-3 pm for our project meetings. We also meet on Fridays at varying times for field trips and community service projects.
Every week we meet to work on different projects. There is a short learning time and lots of hands on time. The goal is to introduce kids to different project areas in order to spark an interest.
You can register on v2.4honline.com
Once that is done you can download the Stack Team app and join our group. This is where we share details of meetings and everything we are doing.
Any youth ages 5-18 as of September 1 of the current 4-H year may join 4-H
To be an active member of 4-H you must participate in at least one project. We highly encourage you to participate in as much as you can. You will get the most out of the program the more involved that you are.
This is not a drop off. Parents are required to stay on sight unless arrangements have been made prior to the meeting.
Our club tries to provide as many opportunities as possible for our kids but there is always more. You can get involved in county activities. You are encouraged to attend the County Council Meetings every two months in order to keep informed with what is going on as well as read the county newsletter that is sent to your email once you are signed up on 4H online. There are also state and national opportunities available, such as becoming an ambassador. Ask us for more details.
We meet on the Northwest side of town close to Shaenfield and 1604. For the safety of our kids this information will not be shared here but if you are interested in joining our group please contact us at sahomeschoolers4h@gmail.com for more info.
We meet from September through May although there are other opportunities for the kids to see each other such as competitions and camps during the summer.
We do not require but do ask that parents help where possible. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way. If you have a special talent to share please let us know.
You are not required to participate in every project but do encourage it. This is the best way for the kids to really get to know each other and form friendships. We understand if you cannot participate in some projects, but do encourage you to stay and socialize.
We do not require face masks but do ask that if there is a possibility of exposure to COVID or you are feeling sick that you stay home until you are feeling better.
Please see the Texas 4-H Code of Conduct

Yes, we are a non-profit group. We run strictly on parent volunteers. Many of us give hours of our time to help the program and the kids because we strongly believe in the program, all while taking care of our own families.
There are $50,000 worth of scholarships that a 4-H member can apply for as a Senior. Requirements vary but most include a minimum of 4 years as an active member in 4-H and a recordbook for all 4 years.
Head, Heart, Hands, Health
These are the 4 pillars of 4-H and the values that members work on through fun and engaging programs. Edit
